Major Software releases

Currently, ACI has 6 Major releases in total. Out of these 6, only 3 receive further software updates. We cover only Releases 4, 5 & 6 as the others are no longer receiving any updates, and we don’t recommend using them anymore!

ACI Release 4

The 4.2 Maintenance Train is still receiving Vulnerability & Security Updates, but no longer regular Maintenance updates. If you are unsure what the difference is, we put it at the end of the post.

Last Date for Maintenance Releases was December 20, 2022, last Date for Vulnerability & Security will be December 31, 2024.

Latest 4.2 Software

The most recent Software release is 4.2(7w), released on March 17, 2023.

Suggested 4.2 Software

The recommended Software release is 4.2(7v), which Cisco released on November 20, 2023.

ACI Release 5

For the 5.2 Maintenance Train, there is no announced End-Of-Life date. This release can be considered current and support nearly all Hardware offered for ACI.

Latest 5.2 Software

For 5.2 the latest Software release is 5.2(8e), released on August 9, 2023.

Suggested 5.2 Software

For 5.2 the current suggested Software release is 5.2(7g). It was published on February 21, 2023.

ACI Release 6

ACI Software release 6 is the most recent Major release. There are few minor releases right now. I recommend it if you need any of the new features. Otherwise, stick with Release 5 for now.

Latest 6.0 Software

For 6.0 the latest Software release is 6.0(3d), which was released on August 9, 2023.

Suggested 6.0 Software

So far, there is no suggested 6.0 release :)

Different Typ of updates

Cisco has different Milestones in their End of Life Process. Two main ones for Software Releases are the following.

End of Maintenance Releases

The last date that Cisco Engineering may release any final software maintenance releases or bug fixes for . After this date, Cisco Engineering will no longer develop, repair, maintain, or test the product software. The only exception is Vulnerability/Security issues that will be addressed as shown in the End of Vulnerability/Security Support milestone below. The last date that Cisco Engineering may release any final software maintenance releases or bug fixes. After this date, Cisco Engineering will no longer develop, repair, maintain, or test the product software.

End of Vulnerability & Security Support

The last date that Cisco Engineering may release bug fixes for Vulnerability or Security issues for . After this date, bug fixes for Vulnerability or Security issues identified in may be provided through later supported software releases. Note that there will be no rebuild releases of provided after this End of Vulnerability/Security Support milestone date. The last date that Cisco Engineering may release a planned maintenance release or scheduled software remedy for a security vulnerability issue.
